Race for a Reason

rfar_wendling

Walk, run, or stay home and watch TV, but please, sign up for Race for a Reason and select Passion Works as your cause. The Ohio University Center for Sports Administration and Athletes in Action have teamed up with O’Bleness Health System for the largest charity-based race event in Athens history. The events will consist of a traditional 5K run starting at the 50 yard line of Peden Stadium and finish at Tailgreat Park. Registration Fee is $15. If you sign up for this and select Passion Works as your cause we will get half.

Then there’s a Mud Run that goes from Peden Stadium, through the Ridges and back to Tailgreat Park. This run includes mud pits and obstacles in the ROTC Challenge course at the Ridges and what is billed as a Slip-N-Slide finish. Registration is $15 and Passion Works will get half! Slip-N-Slide, Mud Pits, I’m in!

Last, but definitely not least, there’s a Triathlon, starting with a short sprint towards a 500 meter swim followed by a 15 mile bike ride and finished off with a 5K run, wow. Registration for this event is $50. Passion Works appreciates your support, whether you are running or staying home. Please and thank you!

Flow

PW-Flow-Full-web

Wow, what an exciting short run exhibition! The Dairy Barn Arts Center will host “Word of Art: Flow” show from April 17th through April 21st. Passion Works has an exciting entry that was created collaboratively by most of the Passion Works artists. Creativity at Passion Works is a constant Flow.

Ohio Public Images Awards

All Winners

The awards were flowing freely and the Athens County Board raked them in! The winners include Dara Day-Personal Achievement Award; the big winner was Andy-who won the Self Advocate Award and received a standing ovation for his acceptance speech; Dave Shull of Kroger for supportive employment of individuals with disabilities over the last decade; Jane Means of the Athens News for Print Journalism (annual Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities insert, thank you Jane!), and Passion Works Studio for Publication (our newsletter!).

Passion Works at the Library

guitar

The Athens County Library at 30 Home Street will come to life from April 3 through April 28th as there will be two simultaneous Passion Works/ATCO exhibitions running at once. No Strings Attached and Bringing Art to Life.

No Strings Attached
Mostly new and previously unseen art, featuring many beautifully hand painted guitars that will hang on the library walls complimented by music related 2D art.

Bringing Art to Life
One-of-a-kind baby quilts, wall hangings, potholders, silk scarves and pillows were created by artists at ATCO, Inc. These hand-dyed works of art include hand-drawn images, mark-making, batiking, stamping, silk-screening, digital transfers, hand embroidery, machine stitching and applique.

The 16 day residency was led by Wendy Minor Viny and Joyce Frank. This vibrant collection was made possible through a grant from the Athens Foundation.

Join us for the artists reception on Thursday, April 18th from 5:30-7:00 PM

Hocking College Writers Group

HC-writing-groupWriting is like pointillism art…each written word, like dots of color in a Seurat painting, come together creating an image of the artists’ expression. Some artists paint pictures with visionary words, others use imagery. Our own Alexis Rhinehart successfully blends both. Special thanks to Deny Naffziger and all of the Hocking College students who worked with our Passion Works artists and with those we serve at ATCO. We really enjoyed the collaboration. Inspiration flowed both ways.

Passion Works Studio at Hillel

hillel

Drop by the Hillel Center at 21 Mill Street from 4 – 6 PM on Saturday April 6th, for some delicious Israeli wine, beautiful cheese trays, fruit, and live music. Plus, browse the amazing collection of artwork created by Passion Works artists and Hillel students. Havdalah and Tzedakah boxes, plus Mizrach wall hangings will be available for purchase. As an added bonus some boxes will contain secret surprises in them such as gift certificates for local merchants! Enjoy the opening at Hillel but then be sure to walk across the street to Passion Works Studio where we will also stay open till 6 PM in celebration of another great Passion Works/Hillel collaboration and Mom’s Weekend.

Passion Works wishes to thank Rabbi Danielle Leshaw, Morgan Blumenfeld and all the great Ohio University Hillel students who volunteered their time to work on this collaboration.
